Just 50 km away from Kankavli railway station, it is an idyllic village on the west coast of Maharashtra, India. There is just one road through it, with sea on one side and backwater on another. Along this road, there are quite a few homestays with hammocks tied to coconut trees in the yard. You can get authentic, mouth-watering malvani food there. Do try drinks made from kokum, a local fruit best for summer due to its cooling and digestive properties. Solkadhi goes well with a meal and Kokum juice or soda can be consumed anytime. Fish lovers will be delighted here as the fish is tastier due to being freshly caught, prepared with flavorful coastal recipes.
What sets apart Talashil Tondavali is how clean both the beach and backwater are. It’s an unexplored hidden gem just starting to get recognition. There are adventure sports activities on the beach but not too many. The fishermen are active here and their equipment can be found on the beach. You will see small fishing boats, fishing nets etc. If you are lucky, you can spot dolphins frolicking in the sea early morning. You can take a walk along the backwater as well.
All in all, it is a place to chill and unwind. Don’t rush through here. Wake up early and cross your fingers that you will get to see dolphins. Take a walk on the beach in the evening and you will see local kids enjoying a game of cricket. On the benches in the sand, there would be a few villagers discussing local matters. How to reach Talashil Tondavali?
If you are traveling by air, Chipi Airport is the nearest one and approx. 35 km away. Goa International Airport might be more convenient due to frequency of flights, nearly 150 km away.
If you are traveling by train, you can either get down at Kankavli (approx. 48 km) or Kudal (approx. 50 km). Govt. run State Transport buses can take you to the village, auto rickshaws can be hired outside the railway station or arrange for a private cab in advance.
If you plan to come by road, its nearly 500 km from Mumbai and National Highway 66 will be the best choice.
